Computer Club
18. January 2006 by MrBall.
In the area of exploring gaming and learning I will soon be working with my school’s computer club. Check out the post on Grade 3: Computer Club and Balancing Act for today.
I’m not sure how teaching grades 1-3 with Food Force will work out but I’m going to try it anyway. I think that the level of discussion and the level of game play will hamper student learning and sharing. I’m going to try it anyway because I think I will be able to get a better gage of student ability from the lower grades. I’ve only taught 2/3, 3 and 5 so I am eager to get more experience with the whole spectrum of students.
Our school’s focus is on Math (or Maths as they say in Australia) and I can always down shift to some Edutainment math.

Protopage

www.protopage.com/grade_3 is my attempt at using the Protopage features.
So far it looks like it will allow me to use RSS feeds, post comments, share links and files, and customize the look easily. I’m not sure that makes it a good tool for learning. We’ll see…

World Food Program’s- Food Force
10. January 2006 by MrBall.
I’m giving it a shot. I’m getting a proposal together that I’m giving to my Principal, hopefully this week. I want to take the Tuesday Lunch Computer club and use it as a Learning venue. I’m going to start off simple with the World Food Program’s Food Force.
I’m having our technician install the game on my classroom PC and I’ll demo the game to my Principal.
I’m excited because I think that it will give me my first ‘hit’ of what it might be like to teach around/ with a video game.
Check the game out here…
